Scary, scary!!!!
Okay, I have to admit, I hate watching and hearing about Obama and all the crap he is trying to do. But why should I watch tv when my good old Bryan can fill me in. He informed me of something tonight that just kinda blew my mind. Did you know that right now Obama is trying to pass a health care plan and socialize medicine. And in that plan, it includes this: I will try to describe it the best way I understood it. Once your 65, if you go to the doctor and they diagnose you with a disorder that could be life threatening, the government gets to decide if it's worth saving you. If they think nahhhh, that's just going to be to much money for all that surgery and stuff, we'll just help kill you. WHAT!!! Yeah that's right! Bryan said something about offering classes, where they will help teach you how to kill yourself. IS THAT NOT CRAZY!!!!!!! I'm sorry, but this world have gone crazy.

Fear is a powerful motivator in American politics.
An email alert is currently circulating that states page 425 of the House health care bill is essentially forced euthanasia.
This is simply not true.
Fact: Page 425 says a doctor can get a Medicare reimbursement once every five years for meeting with a Medicare recipient to discuss whether that Medicare recipient might want to effect a living will by which he or she would decline being artificially kept alive. (personally, my grandparents already have a living will stating that they do not wish to be kept alive in a "vegetable" state).
Reimbursements for such counseling could occur more frequently in the event of a diagnosis of a deathly illness.
No one would be made to engage in such a session and certainly no one would be forced to consent to anything based on such a session.
This actually is compassionate — the idea that physicians would discuss these options with people, who then might discuss them with their loved ones.
If a Medicare recipient chooses not to engage is these counseling sessions with their physician and loved ones, then that is their choice.
There is no mandate.
And while a person may or may not like President Obama and may or may not be opposed to socialized healthcare, it's irresponsible for people to spread fear and hate-mongering based upon insufficient information or grossly exaggerated half-truths.
Bryan’s response to Cathryn’s comment:
Sorry for my late response, but this week has been very busy!!!!
Before I jump on my soapbox, I feel the need to clear the air on a few issues:
I have no intention of starting a blog war. In this comment I will state my concerns and issues. I encourage everyone to read the bill for themselves, prayerfully seek guidance, and contact your local Representative to express your support or opposition for HR3200c.
To the comment of hate-mongering:
I harbor no hate or ill-will toward anyone, especially our current President. My prayer is that God will give him wisdom and strength to lead this country in a manner that is pleasing in God’s eyes!!! I hope your prayer is the same.
To the statement of the “facts” surrounding HR3200c and comments on p.425:
I too have read this section of the bill several times due to articles from both Left and Right Wing supporters and I agree with the face value of your interpretations and I pray that we both are correct if this bill passes.
To the statement of “There is no mandate”:
The bill, based on my interpretation, does not make this counseling mandatory.
All statements listed here are based on my interpretation of the wording in the bill and concerns with the underlying issues at hand.
With that being said, on my soapbox I go. . . (to be continued)
I agree with the statements that the Conservatives have made, in that the wording on the pages surrounding the infamous page 425 (pp. 424 thru 431) could lead to counseling sessions at the bedside of elderly patients in poor health in which the patients could feel pressured into signing something that they do not understand or would not normally sign. These conservative statements from Betsy McCaughey, John Boehner, and Thaddeus McCotter can be found at the following link: http://www.lifenews.com/bio2899.html.
Why do I agree with this? Pages 509 through 521 of the bill outline a plan for Comparative Effectiveness Research (CER). These pages contain a great outline for comprehensive studies on which medications and types of treatments are most effective in an effort to maximize the efficiency of money used for treatment. I completely support the research if it is used to help save lives!!! CER is currently in use in the United Kingdom as part of their socialized medicine program. There are some claims that the CER program in the UK encourages the denial coverage based on the “cost effectiveness” of the treatment. See link: http://formularyjournal.modernmedicine.com/formulary/Modern+Medicine+Now/Comparative-effectiveness-research-may-shape-treat/ArticleStandard/Article/detail/596637. This has led to suspicions that the US will adopt similar mindsets to refuse service for the elderly and at risk patients. See link: http://medheadlines.com/2008/03/01/ouch-uk-debates-medical-care-for-elderly-unhealthy/ .
I do not believe that these issues should be governed by the Federal Government nor do I trust our judicial system to make the right decision between money and someone’s life!!!! I also have a problem with the fact that the people who will pass this into law will have no personal impact from the legislation; they are protected under a separate healthcare plan. A national healthcare plan that is good enough for the people, should be good enough for the politicians as well. These are some of my concerns and I will climb down off my soapbox now…
So… Let me end the way you began:
“Fear is a powerful motivator in American politics.”
Fear is a powerful motivator in all issues. But fear of the “Change” that President Obama promised and fear of the political unknown is not on my list. I fear what could happen to my parents and grandparents if medical treatment in the last years of their lives is left in the hands of politicians and the interpretations of our judicial system. But more over, I fear God’s judgment if I do not stand up for the morals that He has given me through His word (Ephesians 6:2–3 & 1 Timothy 5:3-8). King Solomon described my fear the best at the end of Ecclesiastes when he said:
Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter:
Fear God and keep His commandments,
For this is man’s all.
For God will bring every work into judgment,
Including every secret thing,
Whether good or evil.
May God bless this country!!!!
